We use water all day every day. We drink it, we cook with it, we clean with it. Often we don’t spend too much time thinking about it, we simply pour ourselves a glass and drink up. But have you ever considered exactly what’s in our tap water?

Sure, it’s deemed safe to drink, and that might be enough for most people, but don’t you want to know exactly what you’re putting in your body? Just because water is considered suitable for consumption by your city, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s clean enough for optimal health.

Water filtration systems are a great way to clean and purify the water you put into your body and use in your home. While tap water is safe in most places, it doesn’t mean you’re not ingesting impurities and unwanted substances. Depending on where you live, you might be drinking bacteria, chemicals, and debris floating around in your municipality’s water system. Water filtration systems can help purify our water by eliminating the following chemicals and impurities:

  1. 1. Chlorine: Chlorine works to kill bacteria and microbes in our water that might otherwise make you sick. Chlorine is needed in a city’s water to prevent the spread of illnesses through drinking water, but do you really want to consume chlorine?  Sounds delicious.
  2. Fluoride: Many cities add fluoride to their water as a public health measure. While the extra fluoride added to your water won’t necessarily hurt you or your family, Water filtration systems can filter it out.
  3. Lead: Lead is another contaminant that can often show up in your tap water. Old pipes and cost-saving measures can equal increased lead levels in our drinking water. Lead also causes long-term harm in adults, and is thought to be linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure and kidney damage.
  4. Nitrate: Nitrate forms naturally at the surface of water, particularly in groundwater and well water. However, when nitrate reaches high levels, it can be dangerous, and particularly harmful for pregnant women and children.

While water filtration systems provide an extra layer of protection when it comes to drinking tap water, did you know they are also good for the environment and help you save money?

Having access to safe drinking water means you don’t need to worry about buying countless bottles of mineral water on a regular basis. This equals fewer plastic water bottles that will eventually end up in landfills or, even worse, in our oceans.

On top of this, if you don’t need to buy bottled water every week, you can save a lot of money each year. Plus, water filtration systems can often help reduce plumbing bills because the heavy metals and chemicals that damage your pipes have been filtered out.

So it might be a good idea to switch to a water filtration system to purify the water you drink, and, in turn, help protect yourself, your family and your home while helping the environment and saving money. Swapping to a water filtration system is an easy, hassle-free process that will help you and your family’s health in the long run. What’s not to like?
